Genet Erickson Adam
Literacy in the Mathematics Classroom
(NB: A two-part workshop -- you must sign up for both Session 1 & Session 2)
This workshop will explore reading, writing, speaking and listening...in the mathematics classroom. How do literacy skills and tools enhance mathematical learning?
This workshop will provide a practical look at how to use children's literature in your classroom to spark authentic student inquiry into the mathematical world.
We will also look at how writing, speaking and listening enhance mathematical learning, as students deepen understanding and refine mathematical strategies through communicating. It is intended that participants will walk away with ideas that can be immediately implemented in their mathematics lessons.
These ideas will help both teachers and students not only improve the thinking in their classrooms, but also have fun doing it!
