Web 2.0 Tools

in the ESL Classroom

This will be an interactive workshop where participants will have the opportunity to visit a 'virtual learning environment' (VLE) that I have created to support my ESL teaching.

The website has a wide range of interactive material that I use to complement my lessons. I have been able to add a variety of resources such as power point presentations, short movies, crosswords and various other quizzes, links to other websites, forums, and glossaries. The site has the facility to add time limits for tasks and control number of attempts allowed per task.

Students must be invited to join their particular courses so I am able to control access to the website, once they are registered for the course I am able to monitor their progress throughout the length of course.

Participants will learn how the site can be used in a variety of ways, that not only assist learning, but can also be used for collection of data related to the learning.

Using this tool means I am able to save time on lesson preparation, cut down on excessive paper use and offer the students something different from their regular lessons.
