Lindsay McQuattieReading for Meaning:
Teaching comprehension skills through the use of good quality picture books in the Junior School
This workshop will explore the skills and strategies that thoughtful, proficient readers use to construct meaning. In particular we will look at activating schema, creating mental images, making inferences and asking questions. We will look at how quality picture books can be used in the classroom to provide opportunities for explicit teaching and teacher modelling. This workshop will provide participants with fun and engaging ideas for implementing the development of these strategies and creating a culture of thinking in the classroom.
